Skip to Content Cal Poly News Search Cal Poly News Go California Polytechnic State University Sept. 29, 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Bob Field (805) 756-2448, rfield@calpoly.edu Cal Poly Kennedy Library Features 'Ocean Science Quest' Exhibit SAN LUIS OBISPO -- A new exhibit about ocean exploration is on display on the first floor of Cal Poly's Kennedy Library through Oct. 31. "Ocean Science Quest," developed by Bob Field, adjunct professor in physics, explores the diversity and abundance of life, and the interactions of energy and matter within the ocean, as well as the sun and earth's impact on the ocean. Eight fictitious "Daily Sea Star" and "Natural Enquirer" tabloid newspapers explore the themes of seasonal change, tide pools and global climate. The sea otter and kelp forest become metaphors for the ocean and marine life, all of which depend on sunlight, gravity and heat transfer. The exhibit is open to the public. A special invitation is extended to high school and college science and math classes. Additional "Quest" activities might involve field trips, discussion groups, illustrated slide shows, seminars, teacher workshops, student projects, research projects, library programs and science museums. Field will be offering tours of the exhibit to the public at 2 p.m. on Saturdays, Oct. 11 and 18. No registration is required.
