Skip to Content Cal Poly News Search Cal Poly News Go California Polytechnic State University Sept. 26, 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Barbara Morningstar University Art Gallery (805) 756-1571 Cal Poly Art Professor To Mount Retrospective Exhibit Oct. 16-Nov.16 SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Cal Poly's University Art Gallery will kick off the academic year with a retrospective exhibit of works by Art and Design Professor Robert Densham. The exhibit will run Oct. 16-Nov. 16, with an artist's reception at 5 p.m. on opening day (Oct. 16) in the gallery, located in the Dexter Building. The exhibit features color and black-and-white graphic and package designs, illustrations, drawings and typefaces. Many of the works date back some 40 years to Densham's college days. Densham has been teaching at Cal Poly since 1980. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1967 and a Master's of Fine Arts degree, both from Cal State Long Beach. "Robert Densham is the consummate artist, constantly sketching and designing wherever he goes," said University Art gallery Coordinator Barbara Morningstar. "For the exhibit, Robert has taken photographs of his illustrations and graphic designs, then reformatted those works into photographic montages -- a graphic design tour de force -- and printed them on 44-inch-wide photo paper, some as long as 10 feet. The show promises to be a stunning retrospective of Robert Densham's long and successful career." Densham will also display many of his original sketches, designs and drawings from models. Admission to the University Art Gallery is free. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The exhibit is sponsored by Cal Poly's College of Liberal Arts, Art and Design Department, Instructionally Related Activities program, Cal Poly Arts and the California Lottery.
