Skip to Content Cal Poly News Search Cal Poly News Go California Polytechnic State University July 24, 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Virginia Walter (805) 756-2987 Cal Poly Professor Receives National Honor SAN LUIS OBISPO - Cal Poly Horticulture and Crop Science Professor Virginia Walter has been named a National Fellow by Pi Alpha Xi (PAX), the national floriculture scholastic honor society. Walter teaches horticulture and floriculture classes at Cal Poly, and also coaches the department's awardwinning student flower judging teams. She coached the Cal Poly floral judging team to national championship titles in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1999, 2000, 2002, and 2003. She joined the College of Agriculture faculty in 1974, after earning her bachelor's and master's degrees from The Ohio State University. Walter was named a PAX Fellow in spring 2003.
