The learning programs include "The Mystery of the Pharaoh's Treasure," "Fantastic Flight," "Robo-Tech," and "Space and Rocketry." They are designed for students who will be entering the 4th, 5th and 6th grades this fall. Meeting Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., each program will have two instructors. The fee for each Adventure is $250 and includes instruction, materials, a T-shirt, morning and afternoon refreshments and a lunch beverage. Participants will receive a special certificate at the end of the program. - The Mystery of the Pharaoh's Treasure will be held during the week of July 21. Exploring the science of ancient Egypt, students will journey to the land of the pharaohs to solve a mystery and unearth a long-forgotten treasure. Students will also build pyramids and decipher hieroglyphics. - Fantastic Flight, the week of July 28, will explore the world of flight. Students will investigate the Wright brothers' experiences, as well as the lives of animal aviators from birds to bats to butterflies. They will also experiment with hot air balloons, helicopters and air-powered rockets. - In Robo-Tech, the week of Aug. 4, students will be able to build their own walking robot. This program will also explore the secret behind bubble rainbows, the oozing of slime, and the upside-down world of gravity racers with kaleidoscopes, magnets and more. 9/25/2009 12:52 PM Cal Poly Continuing Education Offers Summer 'Science Adventures' for Youth file:///X:/Copyright/Submissions/_PressReleases%20&%20Cal%20Pol... 2 of 2 - Space and Rocketry, held the week of Aug. 11, will investigate the hidden mysteries of the universe as viewed from the surface of a star, by charting the constellations and exploring the different worlds of the solar system. Students will make an "orbit rocket" and blast it skyward using a solid-fuel rocket motor. For more information or to register, call 756-2053.
