Skip to Content Cal Poly News Search Cal Poly News Go California Polytechnic State University Feb. 28, 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: LISA WOSKE (805) 756-7110 STREB GO! Live at the Cal Poly Theatre March 25 SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA - Celebrate the "wild and wacky experiments by which humans achieve their dreams" with the movement masters of STREB GO! on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at 8 p.m. at the Cal Poly Theatre. Cal Poly Arts presents the East Coast group in their national tour of "STREB As Science Project," featuring the choreography of founder and MacArthur Foundation "Genius" award winner Elizabeth Streb. With action contraptions and the body's reactions, the Company demonstrates the inspiration and fascination with the forces of movement -- trying to channel, control and conquer them as humans fly, drop, throw, build, fall, fail and "fantasize in an unending duet with nature." STREB's mission is to bring what startles scientists in their labs, workers on construction sites, and children in schoolyards to the stage. They perform with "...dare-all virtuosity." (The Village Voice) Since founding her company in 1979, Elizabeth Streb has developed a way of "moving" that investigates and questions many notions about dance, including explorations of the nature of grace and the camouflage of gravity. These aspects are incorporated with action-sound and specially structured equipment into dynamic theatrical presentations. STREB tours throughout the United States and internationally, presenting performances and residencies and working in both traditional and non-traditional venues. The company has staged its work in Australia, Taiwan, Singapore, Chile, England, and France and has traveled to over 50 cities in the U.S. STREB has been seen on "Late Night with David Letterman," "CBS Sunday Morning," CNN's "Showbiz Today," NBC's "Weekend Today," "Larry King 1 of 2 10/2/2009 1:25 PM Cal Poly Arts Brings Streb Go to Campus March 25 file:///X:/Copyright/Submissions/_PressReleases%20&%20Cal%20Pol... Live," "ABC Nightly News with Peter Jennings," and on Nickolodeon and MTV. As part of its commitment to community involvement and diversification, the Company has two programs -- PUBLIC-ACTION and KID ACTION -- designed to break down the barriers between artist and audience and expose the community to the creative and rehearsal processes. Tickets for the performance are $28 & $34, with student discounts available, and may be purchased at the Performing Arts Ticket Office, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
