Skip to Content Cal Poly News Search Cal Poly News Go California Polytechnic State University Contact: Jo Ann Lloyd (805) 756-1511 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE National Lawyers Guild Executive Director To Speak on 'Constitution Under Attack' SAN LUIS OBISPO -- James Lafferty, executive director of the National Lawyers Guild in Los Angeles, will present "Dissent in the New Age of U.S. Empire: The Constitution Under Attack" from 6 to 8 p.m. March 10 in Cal Poly's Chumash Auditorium. Lafferty, a longtime peace and civil rights activist, is host of the public radio program "The Lawyers Guild Show." He is a member of the steering committee of Act Now to Stop Wars and End Racism, an anti-war group that has organized recent nationwide demonstrations against the war in Iraq. He is also a former national coordinator for the National Peace Action Coalition, the anti-war group that staged some of the biggest anti-Vietnam War rallies. He has also chaired the largest ACLU chapter in Michigan. In addition to his activities on behalf of peace and civil liberties, he has taught courses at the Wayne State University and University of Michigan law schools and The New School for Social Research in New York City. Lafferty's talk is the final in a series of lectures on the crisis in the Middle East. The series, sponsored by the university's College of Liberal Arts and History Department, is part of a history course taught by Professor Manzar Foroohar.
