The annual award is funded by Jeff Land, a 1980 business graduate, and his wife, Carla. The Land family seeks students who have achieved the highest level of excellence in their ability to balance their academic pursuits with community service. Their involvement can be in campus, religious or charitable organizations. A student from each of Cal Poly's six colleges and one who has been active in student government will be selected to receive a monetary award. From those seven, one student who has most effectively demonstrated excellence on the campus and in the community will be selected to receive the highest award -- the equivalent of one year's tuition. Community members who work with Cal Poly students are invited to nominate deserving students by writing a brief letter outlining the student's achievements and qualifications. The letter can be e-mailed to Patricia Harris at pharris@calpoly.edu. Nominations should include contact information for the student (phone number and/or e-mail address). Students who are nominated will be asked to write an essay outlining their leadership experience and how it reflects the core values embedded in the program. 10/2/2009 11:35 AM Cal Poly Seeking Student Academic, Service Leaders 2 of 2 file:///X:/Copyright/Submissions/_PressReleases%20&%20Cal%20Pol...
