Carrasco, Rudenstine Professor of the Study of Latin America at Harvard Divinity School, will give two presentations at Cal Poly on Feb 28. The first talk, "Aztec Moments and Chicano Cosmovision: Aztlán Recalled to Life," will be at 11 a.m. in the Business Building Rotunda (Room 213). The lecture and slide show will examine the Chicano conception of paradise and Aztlán. At 7 p.m. in Philips Hall, Carrasco will present "Alambrista: Recalled to Life," a description of how the creative efforts of a group of Chicano scholars and musicians brought new life to the award-winning 1977 film "Alambrista." The talk will be followed by a showing of the new director's cut of the film, which won the Camera d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1977 and marks Edward James Olmos' first real achievement in acting. "Alambrista," an immigrant/farm-worker story, has been treasured and critically acclaimed in grassroots communities of Mexican-American people, according to Carrasco. Both presentations will be accompanied by musical selections chosen and presented by Betto Arcos, host of Los Angeles' KPFK-FM radio's "Global Village." Cal Poly's Ethnic Studies Department is hosting the events, which are free and open to the public. For more information, call the department at 756-1707. - 30 1 of 2 10/2/2009 11:39 AM Harvard Professor To Speak, Screen Film Feb. 28 at Cal Poly file:///X:/Copyright/Submissions/_PressReleases%20&%20Cal%20Pol...
