The show will play at 8 p.m. Feb. 20-21 and at 4 p.m. Feb. 23 in Chumash Auditorium in the University Union. Created and written by Eve Ensler after interviewing more than 200 women, "The Vagina Monologues," according to its official Web site (http://www.vaginamonologues.com/index.html), "has given voice to a chorus of lusty, outrageous, poignant, brave, highly original and thoroughly human stories. "The play explores the humor, power, pain, wisdom, outrage, mystery and excitement hidden in vaginas. Having seen 'The Vagina Monologues,' no one -- woman or man -- will look at the world the same way again." Cal Poly's cast will include both students and community members. The Cal Poly production is one of more than 650 being staged around the world during February in celebration of V-Day, an international movement and nonprofit organization that aims to end violence against women. V-Day began in 1998 as an outgrowth of the success of "The Vagina Monologues." It provides funds to grassroots organizations that are working to stop violence against women and girls and helping those who are survivors of violence. Gray is staging "The Vagina Monologues" as her senior project. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to local women's groups. "This play has been my life for the last several months," Gray said, "and I thank everyone who helped make it a reality, especially Cal Poly Political Science Professor Alesha Doan and Woman's Center staff member Leener Lannon. I think it's important, especially in this community, to shake things up and get people talking."
