The Washington Post declared that "Dance Cuba dazzles...(with) a perfectly coordinated flurry of ruffled skirts, stamping feet, and high-beam smiles." The Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba company is comprised of 22 rigorously trained female dancers and an ensemble of live musicians. In 1991, when she was only 23, rising Cuban choreographer Lizt Alfonso created Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba; since October 2000, the group has been a resident company at the Havana Great Theater. Dance Insider magazine wrote, "Her company of superb performers can do it all and do it at such a high caliber, commitment, and skill, while exuding beauty and pride." The company presents a dynamic show, with a unique style suggesting a "Cuban way" of combining flamenco, ballet, and Spanish classical dance with Afro-Cuban and Cuban rhythms. The diverse repertoire is backed by a lively Salsa band. Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba has been presented as one of the premier Cuban performing arts groups. The company's works have been presented in all the main theaters of Cuba and their productions have been filmed for Cuban television. With an extensive choreographic vocabulary that includes several styles of dance, Alfonso has also choreographed for other companies and institutions, such as the Lyrical Art Center of Havana and Madrid's group theater, "Las Rozas." 10/2/2009 10:52 AM A Celebration of Spanish Dance at Cal Poly March 4 2 of 2 file:///X:/Copyright/Submissions/_PressReleases%20&%20Cal%20Pol...
