Sponsored by the university's Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals United (GLBU) club, the Progressive Student Alliance, Cal Poly Women's Awareness Club and the Young Democrats, Same-Sex Hand-Holding Day is celebrated near Valentine's Day to raise awareness on the campus about alternative lifestyles. "It also highlights the privilege that heterosexual couples enjoy regarding public displays of affection," said Mel Commuso, a Cal Poly student and member of GLBU. Members of GLBU will have information available on gay rights at a booth on Dexter Lawn from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 13. At 11:30 a.m. a procession of people from each club holding hands with someone of the same sex will walk from Dexter Lawn to the University Union Plaza and back to Dexter.
