Skip to Content Cal Poly News Search Cal Poly News Go California Polytechnic State University Jan. 21, 2003 Contact: William Pendergast (805) 756-2730 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Cal Poly To Hold Business Plan Competition Finals, Awards Ceremony Feb. 5 SAN LUIS OBISPO - The finalists in the Cal Poly Orfalea College of Business's Ray Scherr Business Plan Competition will give their presentations from 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 5 in the Founder's Lounge of the Performing Arts Center at Cal Poly. Five student-faculty teams selected from 15 candidate teams will compete for cash awards totaling $7,000. The presentations are the final part of the competition, which includes a business concept paper and a written business plan. The competition is designed to educate Cal Poly students about the process of new venture creation, encourage commercialization of promising ideas from the university's colleges and research centers, and build bridges between Cal Poly and the entrepreneurial community, according to Business Professor William Pendergast. A panel of judges will make the final awards. An awards reception is planned at 5:30 p.m. in the Christopher Cohan Center lobby. The presentations and award ceremony are open to the public. The competition is sponsored by Cal Poly's Entrepreneurship Club.
