Skip to Content Cal Poly News Search Cal Poly News Go California Polytechnic State University Jan. 16, 2003 Contact: Stan Henderson (805) 756-6112 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Cal Poly Dairy Cattle Judging Team Wins Southwest Livestock Competition SAN LUIS OBISPO - For the second time in four years, the Cal Poly Dairy Cattle Judging Team took first place in the Southwest Exposition College Dairy Cattle Judging Competition in Texas. The Cal Poly team was among 11 teams competing Jan. 12 at the annual Southwest Exposition Livestock Show in Fort Worth. Cal Poly outscored all teams to take first overall, besting second-place University of Wisconsin. Cal Poly's Dairy Cattle Judging Team has entered the competition for the past four years. This is the second time the team, coached by Dairy Science Professor Stan Henderson, has taken first place at the Southwest Exposition competition; it has taken second place twice. In addition to winning first place overall, the Cal Poly team took first place in Holstein and Brown Swiss judging and second in reasons. Individual members ranked high as well. Jessica Baker of Sebastopol took first place overall; Kate Briggs, Turner, Maine, took second overall; and Devin Gioletti, Turlock, eighth overall.
