Photo caption, written by Jasmin Landin: "This is the tunnel that leads to my school in Templeton. It is a metaphor for my life since one side represents San Juan Nuevo and the other side represents my life here in the United States. When I go through the tunnel to get to school there are very few Mexican students and not many students speak our language [Spanish]. I feel trapped. At school I have to watch what I wear because the other students and teachers will think that I am in a gang. I have to watch what I say or how I speak in Spanish around them because they will think that I am talking about them in a negative way. When I get out of school and go back through the tunnel to go home, I feel free and comfortable because I am around family and friends who understand my culture and language"
