Kennedy Library Update March 2014 New resources in our collection For the first time, Cal Poly researchers have access to Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI) which is accessible via our Web of Science platform. We now have access to citations and abstracts from over 1,300 arts and humanities journals, with coverage from 2004 to present. A&HCI also includes citations for disciplines that include social science and natural science journals. Read more. What do your metrics tell you about impact? With increasing emphasis placed on scholars and research centers to demonstrate the value of their work, research impact has become a topic of great interest. The established measures of impact are based on journal and author citation metrics. Now, there is also an emerging field of altmetrics which attempts to harvest real-world data to demonstrate real-world impact. Read more. Jessica Holada named Director of Special Collections and Archives Greetings Cal Poly faculty, staff, and friends. We invite you to join us this month to welcome two outstanding new leaders to Kennedy Library, Jessica Holada and Margaret Adeogun. We are also excited to share news of important new acquisitions and useful tools that support Cal Poly scholars. We always welcome your feedback, and thank you for your ideas and support. As a member of the library’s leadership team, Jessica arrives at a time when we are engaged in master planning that will expand both the capacity of our archival and special collections, and increase their reach through instruction, exhibits, digital programs, and relationships both on campus and across the community. Jessica joins Cal Poly from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, where she led a team responsible for cataloging graphic materials. Jessica was a supervisor in the Special Collections and Archives group at CSU Northridge and has worked in the rare book and photograph collections at the Getty, Huntington, Los Angeles Public Library, and at UCLA. Read more. Margaret Adeogun named Head of Access Services As Head of Access Services, Margaret Adeogun will lead the team which is both the face and backbone of the library. Margaret’s experience makes her a great match for managing the daily operations of the unit as we prepare for architectural and system changes. As a library director for the University of East Africa in Baraton, Kenya for 13 years, Margaret Adeogun managed teams, created and implemented policies, trained and mentored staff, and lead strategic and tactical planning. Margaret received her PhD in Library and Information Studies from the University of South Africa in Pretoria and her MLS from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. Read more.
