Fall 2008 Census Enrollment Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo UNIVERSITY HEADCOUNT ENROLLMENT Due to a decrease in the state budget, Cal Poly decreased its enrollment in Fall 2008. The 19,471 total students enrolled is a 1.5% decrease from Fall 2007. 25,000 Undergrad Post-Bacc Graduate The decrease in enrollment is entirely in the undergraduate student population. Of Fall 2008 total students, 43.7% are women. This proportion is a slight increase over last Fall but is still 1.6% below the high point in Fall 2001. • 43.6% of Fall 2008 undergraduates are women. • 68.3% of Fall 2008 post-baccalaureate students are women. • 42.0% of Fall 2008 graduate students are women. Students with an ethnic origin of “Other” are combined with the “Unknown” category to be consistent with state and federal ethnic groupings. Of Fall 2008 students, 24.2% identify themselves as “Non-White.” This is an increase from last year’s proportion of 23.9%. The proportion of “White” students increased slightly from last year. The proportion of students of Hispanic/Latino origin increased from 10.7% last year to 11.3% in Fall 2008. The “Unknown/ Other” proportion, which includes “No Response” identification, is the lowest since prior to Fall 1995 (before the effects of Prop. 209 were realized). • 24.3% of Fall 2008 undergraduates are “Non-White.” • 12.6% of Fall 2008 post-baccalaureate students are “Non-White.” • 22.5% of Fall 2008 graduate students are “Non-White.” TOTAL ENROLLMENT BY COLLEGE College Ag, Food & Env. The College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences and the College of Liberal Arts follow with 20.3% and 16.6% of all Fall 2008 students, respectively. The College of Engineering also has the most graduate (master’s) students. The College of Architecture and Environmental Design has the highest average undergraduate unit load. Conversely, the College of Science and Mathematics has the lowest average undergraduate unit load.
